NICA-Trek Certified Service Course

Trek Certified Service Assembly 101 Course

Open to any student-athlete or coach that is interested in starting or further developing their bicycle mechanic skills. Student-athletes must be 16 years of age or older by July 1, 2017.

The purpose of this course is to educate NICA student-athletes to perform bicycle maintenance on their own. This will in turn lead to enhanced rider confidence with equipment operations all while saving time and money by completing the work themselves. Further, this course teaches skills beyond the wrench that can be applied to business and social life. Initial skills learned are also directly applicable to a potential career within the bicycle industry.

When: July 24 – 26, 2017 (Monday – Wednesday 8:00am – 6:00pm)
Where: Trek Bicycle Headquarters, 801 west Madison St. Waterloo, WI
Tuition Cost: $500

Curriculum:

  • Assembly of road and mountain bikes
  • Understanding frame and part materials
  • Tuning of brakes and drivetrain
  • Installation and truing of wheels
  • Ergonomic bike set-up
  • Understanding torque and its importance
  • Flat change procedure
  • Tubeless Ready set-up and installation
  • Suspension explanation and set-up
  • Bicycle safety check procedure
  • Test ride procedure
  • Introduction to on-line technical resources

What’s included:

  • Education from master instructors with 35+ year’s experience
  • Supporting educational content delivered digitally via thumb drive
  • Trek carbon manufacturing and product test lab facility tours – see how a Trek becomes a Trek
  • Riding at Trek trails via bike provided by Trek Certified Service
  • Food stipend of $20 for breakfast and lunch at the Trek cafeteria

What’s not included:

  • Transportation to and from Madison
  • Accommodations & evening meals (Please email kathy@wisconsinmtb.org if you would like to stay with a WI NICA League family that lives in the area. That family may also help with evening meals and daily transportation to Trek.) Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes for commuting and trail riding.
