Trending at Frostbike: fat tires, beef jerky and big hearts, “dontcha know?!”

There’s never a dull moment at Quality Bicycle Products’ (Q) Frostbike, the bicycle industry distribution magnate’s annual mini-tradeshow. As a Gold Level sponsor of NICA, Q invited us once again to participate in the festivities.  Here are just few highlights from the Minnesota tundra!

Six Degrees of Aberration. High temps during our four-day Twin Cities’ visit hovered right around 17 degrees; lows fell well below zero.  Call him crazy but never call him soft, nothing would keep Executive Director, Austin McInerny, from testing out the latest trend:  20 psi five inch wide treads at about 6 degrees Fahrenheit.   Two laps averaging five miles an hour with fifty-eight feet of climbing and two kudos for the effort probably wouldn’t put McInerny at the top of the +3 Network Leadership Board in the Ritchey/NICA Clubhouse, but it definitely put a giant smile on his face.  Oh but wait! You can earn kudos and raise money for NICA for ‘laughing and having a good time!’  More on the +3 Network later.

Bringin’ home the jerkey! As beneficiaries of the Frostbike Silent Auction, NICA received an additional $6,500 toward the Booster Club.  Thanks to Q and it’s vendors who donated to the auction and to all who ante’ed up for the title of Prize-Winning-top-Bidder.  I, Suzette Ayotte, was among those prize-winning victor’s, taking home a case of Oberto jerky! Oh boy!

In the club? Frostbike also marked the official launch of the Independent Bike Dealer (IBD) Member Booster Club Program.  A hundred bucks gets you a copy of Singletrack High, an official NICA Sponsor window decal, prominence on NICA’s-new-to-come IBD Club member page, and the distinction that you’re helping more kids ride bikes and feel rad!  The Booster Club provides scholarships for student-athletes for all of our Leagues – and membership makes a difference.  NICA extends a finish line cheer to Pat Sorenson and the entire Penn Cycles crew who set the bar by donating not just $100 but $100 for all seven Penn Cycle bike shops. Those Minneapolitans have shown us the true meaning of hardy and hearty! Stay tuned for more information to come on the IBD Program.

Are you an independent bike dealer and interested in joining the IBD Member Booster Club now? Email our Development Director, Suzette Ayotte to learn how!
